Changing PLAB exam date

PLAB exams(both 1 and 2) are well booked in advance and at times, something unexpected may cause you to need a change of date. It might be for:

• Preponing the exam
• Postponing the exam
• Cancelling the exam
• Swapping dates with another

Preponing/postponing the exam

GMC does not allow rescheduling the dates for preponement or postponement. You have to cancel and rebook.

Cancelling the exam

Cancelling the exam is allowed. It can be done online using the ‘My tests’ section of the GMC account. Cancellation may be subject to cancellation fee, as specified:

1. Full refund in case of:

• Visa refusal
• Bereavement
• Ill health 
• Pandemic related reasons( falling ill with COVID, travel restrictions)

You will need to submit evidence of the reason to GMC though

2. Cancellation charges(from 1 April, 2022) :

PLAB1

> 42 days before exam- £24.70

< 42 days before exam- £247

PLAB2

> 42 days before exam- £90.60

Between 42 and 28 days before the exam- £453

< 28 days before exam- £906

Swapping dates with another

This is a common query by many candidates and you may see related discussions in whatsapp and facebook groups where people ask for and offer PLAB dates. Please be aware that GMC has no provision at all for swapping and there is no foolproof way to do it. Candidates go online at the same time and cancel their slots, making the two slots available. They both then pick the other’s slot. This is a risky method and not recommended as upon cancellation, the slots are up for grabs for anyone and you may end up losing yours and not getting the other too.
