All you need to know about GMC registration after PLAB2
A big yay to having cleared PLAB2 after all those sleepless nights and paranoia filled days of waiting for the results! So, this is it? Well, yes and no. No more studying for the PLABs and you are just a step away from being registered and licensed to practice in the United Kingdom. But you DO have the step to undertake. Before the thought of not knowing how to kills your excitement, allow us to simplify it for you.
The steps to follow:
- Go to GMC’s official website (yes, the same you used to book PLAB slots).
- Read about the types of registrations and guides.
- Fill in the online application.
In case you are wondering, it is under My registration🡪My applications
- Pay the fee online.
- Wait for an email from GMC asking for the documentary evidence needed to support and validate your application.
- Get the documents ready, get them organised in a single PDF file and email them to GMC. These need to be sent within 28 days of receiving the email.
- In case any additional documents are required, GMC shall inform you of the same and you shall be required to furnish the additional information within 2 weeks via email.
- If you have appeared in PLAB2 after October 2018, your ID check has already been done and there is no longer a need for it. It is required though for those applying through other routes.
- If everything is in order, you get registration and license to practice.
- Celebrate!
The documents you need to send:
- Evidence of primary medical qualification (MBBS degree certificate, verified by EPIC)
Do remember that the date of having passed the final exam needs to be listed in the document. If it is not, you may need to get a letter from your university citing the same.
- Evidence of internship/experience
If you have completed internship, you need to provide a letter of internship completion (mentioning all the rotations and their duration)
If you haven’t done an internship, evidence of experience of over 2 years after graduation in a public hospital can be furnished as an alternate, if your home country allows clinical practice under such circumstances.
- Evidence of English language
IELTS/OET score
- Passport
It is for the purpose of identity verification.
- Certificate of good standing
The certificate needs to be requested from the medical registration body/authority in your home country, where you have been licensed/registered in the last 5 years.
This certificate is valid only for 3 months from issuance so take care that it is sent within its valid dates.
- Details of last 5 years
You need to furnish the details of clinical experience gathered over the past 5 years. In case of being employed in non-clinical work, employer reference needs to be submitted. In case any clinical work was undertaken without a license/registration, employer reference is required for the same as well.
